Triple Major
北京藥店
Triple Major is an East-meets-West concept store located in the trendy Dashilar area, and adopts interior characteristics that point towards traditional Chinese herb medicine culture.
After working with Wuhao on their digital marketing last year, I’ve had this soft spot for independent stores that highlight Chinese culture rather than just cover it up or replicate glossy Western counterparts. The gloss makes it all shiny, but to create something precious for China itself, while keeping up with the development of the modern market here, it’s also important to retain some of the tradition. Plus, the glossiness always wears off.
Located in a homey hutong (just opposite Soloist Cafe) close to Qian Men, the space retains its locational roots while creating an experience the that beckons to artsy human beings who love interesting boutiques.
Founder Ritchie Chan started the concept when he was still a student at the University of Southern California, where he was Triple Majoring in business, international relations, and history (which is where the brand name comes for in case you didn’t get my noob capitalisation back there). He saw the potential for independent designers in China so decided to move after graduation, and founded Triple Major.
The store curates from both Chinese and international independent labels including Bless Berlin, All Knitwear Brooklyn, Lazy Oaf London, and Digest Design Studio Beijing.
As one of the most influential and established brick and mortar concept stores in Beijing – it now also has stores in Chengdu and Shanghai – Triple Major is a must-visit for a curated shopping experience that’s inextricably Chinese with a modern remix.
